This publication accompanies the retrospective of Irish sculptor Hilary Heron, at IMMA and F E McWilliam Gallery. Heron was born in Dublin in 1923 during a period of radical change surrounding the establishment of the Irish Free State. Heron's International visibility as Ireland's foremost modern sculptor was confirmed when she was selected to represent Ireland at the 1956 Venice Biennale. However, he work ultimately fell into obscurity following her death in 1977. This retrospective aims to bring Heron's work back into public focus and to reaffirm her place in the canon of Irish Modernism.
